Dear Mr. Harrison,
I am remiss in not having notified your class that my husband David Fong passed away in February 2024 in San Luis Obispo, CA, where we had lived since 2000.
David was born in Shanghai, and his family then emigrated to Brazil in 1951.
He came to Andover as a foreign student and was one of the very few Asians attending—not always easy. But he appreciated the solid academic preparation for his studies at Wesleyan and Stanford.
He earned a PhD in English literature at Stanford in 1967 and taught in Hawaii, Los Angeles and Bellevue, WA. He met a lifelong friend at Andover: Richard Bergmann of Mill Valley, CA, who died in 2015.
