The identity checks of suspicion
This essay is written in a language that can tax the patience of the average reader for a reason. It’s an attempt to share insights from a perspective that’s unusual if not unique. From metaphysics. Already Greek to most everybody but now more so because I’ve redefined it.
Expanding if from its origin as a branch of one discipline to the tree from which two have grown. Philosophy and psychology. The Order of Logic combined with the Spontaneity of Love. Or more simply thought combined with feeling. An anomaly in a world determined to keep them separate.
And a paradigm shift should it make it past security. The identity checks of suspicion opposed to intruders upon its hallowed status quo. A change in the way things are understood in the spirit of Thomas Kuhn’s The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (1962).
What is Real?
Though not in accord with its letter, being metaphysics instead of physics, nor likely to pass security.
- Are we meant to be a sub-species of ape?
- To gather in tribes like animals and fight with each other?
- To sell individuality and self-worth in exchange for tribal membership?
- In an animal kingdom of hierarchy whose king is a beast? An ideal of supremacy at hierarchy’s summit — wildness without limits. Without definition.
- If so, what can explain Sapiens if its ancestral primates were already doing it?
The answers could produce a tectonic shift in perceptions beyond Professor Richter’s ability to measure it. Because the underlying question is whether our unfathomable universe is the only reality possible. Or might there be another reality distinguished by the attributes of Mind rather than spacetime-matter?
If so, how could opposing realities and the ideas behind them co-exist? Wouldn’t one have to be “there” in some sense but not really? A kind of hallucination where the hallucinator is “seeing” what’s not there. Say, a mind parted from Self-Awareness.
Logic from intuition, not so much from science
Fascination with theorizing beyond the limits of science has built a thriving industry all its own. Populated by mythologists seeking answers from the usual sources: philosophy and theology. Though in truth their mainstream practitioners, other than creative storytellers from make-believe, have been bullied by science’s self-declared supremacy in the “quest for knowledge” into staying within its limits.
Where venturing beyond hasn’t been bullied and is respected by serious thinkers is metaphysics and a branch of psychology not afraid to mine its meaning. Intuitive psychology founded by Carl Jung. The breakthrough in understanding the psychodynamics of human-ape behavior signaled by his historic break with Sigmund Freud.
A warrior against “speculation” from intuition’s insights. The would-be founder of the “science of mind” who, like the scientist Einstein, deprived himself of insights into the source of his own. Logic, whose absence from the mindset of science was implied by Erwin Schrödinger’s acknowledgment that basing material reality on the sensory perception of material bodies is self-referential reasoning. And by Einstein’s inability to prove cosmic reality with another E=MC2. An outcome that could have been avoided had he reflected with Logic on his observation that his profession could use more of it.
The answer is Love
I’ve trusted intuition to guide from the perspective of both thought and feeling, Love and Logic. From the whole person role-modeled by Jesus and his metaphysics in A Course in Miracles. Where it’s led so far is to a paradigm for comprehension. For putting events like election 2024 into an analytical structure with a foundation. The “structure” of self revolution.
Where the “self” comes from is from an interpretation of what happened and why at the beginning. At the conception of everything in the procreative as well as the intellectual sense. Because it was both.
In answer to the question: how did anything come about if the “beginning” had to be preceded by “nothing?” If there was no need for Mind to make good or bad happen. If there was no force to break through the barrier between nowhere and somewhere and bring somewhere to life. The answer is Love.
The idea of Relatability
The source of wisdom shared by Jesus through A Course in Miracles. One of many possible personifications of its central idea in one of many possible formats. The idea of relatability manifest in loving friendship.
Or at least what I have made of it to make it relatable to me. An idea manifest in my personality so that I might comprehend it. The metaphysics of the Course, Mind role-modeling how to think so that it will know who it is and what it’s about. Not in an unchanging status quo but in the dynamic of Creativity-Now.
Seeing what’s here
Metaphysics still curious about what lies behind appearances. Below the surface, but now making use of the tree’s fecundity – spontaneous insights from another perspective – to listen to its story. To let circumstances speak to their meaning and purpose in their own context essential to understanding mine. Relationship.
Without which understanding Creativity, its origin and expression in Relationship, can only lead to misunderstanding. The state of affairs since Sapiens made its appearance as a different kind of ape. Still behaving like the animal that it is, unaware of itself.
Capable of choice but only from the one perspective allowed by the body-brain senses of a beast. Capable of evolving beyond beast but only with Guidance from another perspective that’s not blindfolded. Self-Awareness that can see what’s here instead of hallucinating what’s not there. Capable of helping human-ape find its way out of the wilderness.
Learning by repetition
If it troubles the animal brain locked into its one perspective that I come back around to say the same thing again, sometimes in the same way, sometimes not, it might not trouble the mind of Sapiens. Evolving beyond beast with the help of Guidance. Learning from another perspective so contrary to the first that it bears repeating. Human-ape learning by repetition.
The language of another way to think about itself and its situation. The language of conscience and direction. From Love and Logic, Mind reflecting upon itself with help from poetry beneath the surface of a pond. A mirror that leaves responsibility for understanding to the beholder, where it belongs.
In translation
For understanding a story that’s translatable. Like the lesson of A Course in Miracles: help from loving friendship sharing what it is and what it does. Help with Relatability that Choice to be Free, to preserve its integrity, can only earn on its own by learning it.
A lesson that by its nature translates to any individual. Coping to relate with other individuals in a make-believe world of self-contradiction: animals striving to be or not to be persons. Choosing to become relatable or willing themselves to remain unrelatable. Needing to learn from Sapiens’ evolution the answer to its question: Who Am I?
Wondering
I try to share what I make of the Course, though without the loftiness of its purpose. Mainly to indulge myself in its gift of loving friendship: conversation with a best friend. Serious and grown up or not if it feels like it. My joie de vivre.
Help with learning in everyday reflection. Delivered not with the theatrics of supreme authority and its emissary from a remote mountaintop demanding obedience to commandments etched in stone, but with the quiet intimacy of two perspectives wondering about things.
As You Like It
Help with hearing what my situation may be telling me. With my own judgment in my own mind with my own voice. Intuition. Mind’s sixth sense. As much a part of who we are as feeling is to thought, Spontaneity to Order, Love to Logic.
To be shared with my compliments. Not to change or distract any mind with mental acrobatics but because it’s a gift. Yours to use and pass along. Or not, with mine and Shakespeare’s approval: As You Like It.
